Passing the Baton --- Student Leaders’ Investiture 2017
by Sarah Anggunputri Simon (Sec 4F)
On 16 May 2017, the annual Student Leaders’ Investiture was held to officially recognise the incoming Student Leaders who would henceforth take charge of the Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) and the Student Council.
The Investiture began aptly with a time of worship led by the outgoing Student Leaders to thank God for His love and guidance throughout the year. Our Principal, Ms Audrey Chen then encouraged the new Student Leaders to be the best version of themselves in stepping up to their new roles to carry out their duties competently and responsibly. The outgoing Head Student Councillor, Jethro Heng of class 4E, also introduced this year’s theme, the Pinnacle. Its significance lies in the fact that leadership is a journey made up of different stages, hence it challenges one to reflect on the status of their leadership journey and how they can reach their maximum potential which is ‘the Pinnacle’. He also expressed his gratitude towards those who have helped nurture him to become the leader he is today and encouraged the incoming Student Leaders to continue to stand strong and overcome all challenges ahead of them.
Each incoming Student Leader then proudly walked on stage as their names were called to humbly accept their Certificates of Appointment. Facing the student body, they solemnly recited the Student Leaders’ pledge to affirm that they will carry out their duties faithfully throughout their new term.
Following that, the outgoing Heads and Vice-Heads of the Uniformed Groups marched in across the hall to present Jethro Heng with the School Flag which was then passed on to Muhammad Wafi from Class 3D, the new Head Student Councillor. This symbolised the passing over of responsibilities and duties to the new group of Student Leaders.
This investiture certainly marks the beginning of the leadership journey for the Secondary 3 students who will play an important role in ensuring a vibrant school culture for everyone.
