Fairfield Symphonic Band Clinches the Certificate of Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation 2017
On 5 April 2017, the Fairfield Symphonic Band competed in the annual Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation at the University Cultural Centre in the National University of Singapore, and was awarded the Certificate of Distinction, which is the highest level of attainment given to Performing Arts Groups in the competition.
This outstanding achievement was possible due to the exceptional teamwork and perseverance of all band members, teachers and instructors. The band members displayed much unity, tenacity and resilience in their journey towards the SYF Arts Presentation, as they spent much time and effort going through many rigorous training sessions and rehearsals to conscientiously improve and refine their skills. For many months, the band members worked very hard to learn and practise their set piece, Sunny Island by Wong Kah Chun, and their choice piece, The Milky Way Express by Hayato Hirose.
At the same time, the Fairfield Symphonic Band members had to prepare a total of 9 other pieces for their Limelight concert which took place on 10 April 2017 at the Esplanade Theatre, just 5 days after their SYF competition. Despite the short period of time they had to learn and rehearse so many pieces, through the musical guidance and encouragement of their band conductor Mdm Tan Soh Hwa, they eventually delivered a laudable performance featuring a high standard of musicality and showmanship to clinch the Certificate of Distinction Award for Fairfield.
All in all, the Fairfield Symphonic Band has done the school proud by displaying excellent teamwork and tireless dedication, and will strive to scale even higher peaks in future.
